Shakopee Mayor and Two City Council Seats Up for Election

The 2013 General Election will be held on Nov. 5.

Three Shakopee government seats will be up for election this year. Filing for candidacy will begin Tuesday, July 30.

The open seats are for mayor, currently filled by Brad Tabke and two city council seats, currently filled by Steven Clay and Pamela Schurman.

In Shakopee, the mayor is elected to serve two years and the council members serve four years. 

The filing fee is $5. Those interested can pick up a filing packet starting July 30 at City Hall, located at 129 Holmes Street South. 

According to the City of Shakopee, candidates for mayor and city council must meet certain requirements:

  • A citizen of the United States.
  • A Shakopee resident for 30 days immediately before the election.
  • Must be at least 21 years old when assuming office.
Residents have until Tuesday, Aug. 13 to file for candidacy.
