City Ditches Dick's Sanitation, Ending "Trash Wars"

The "Trash Wars" are over, according to the Star Tribune.

The Shakopee City Council recently voted to switch the city-selected trash and recycling hauler to Allied Waste Services, from Dick's Sanitation. The move will save hundreds of thousands of dollars per year, according to Mayor Brad Tabke.

As many residents know, the lobbying fight over the waste removal contract turned into a bitter fight, with incumbent Dick's Sanitation even placing robocalls to residents to argue its position. 

“When we started 12 years ago, you based this process on one issue and that was service” not price, Dick's spokesperson David Domack told the council. “We feel strongly, if it’s 63 cents a home a month [a household will save from now on], I strongly feel it’s worth what we’re all about.”
