Prescription Drug Disposal, Catfish Derby: Sheriff's Newsletter

The Scott County Sheriff's Office recently released its quarterly newsletter, which includes information about upcoming events and the dangers of drinking while boating.

Leaving unused prescription drugs in the house is a potentially risky move.

Scott County Sheriff Kevin Studnicka wrote about the dangers of prescription drug abuse in the July issue of "Five Points of the Star," the Scott County Sheriff's Office quarterly newsletter.

A recent research report shows that drug abuse accounted for most of the poisoning deaths in the U.S. between the years of 1999 and 2004. Out of of those case, many were due to prescription drug abuse Studnicka wrote.

He highlighted "Take it to the box" containers throughout the county that provide for the safe disposal of prescription and illegal drugs.

In Shakopee, the drug disposal box is located in the main lobby of the Scott County Sheriff's Office, 301 Fuller Street South.

Read the full newsletter for other notes from the sheriff's office and for information about Scott County events, including the upcoming Catfish Derby and Future Leader's Day, which was held in April.
