This Week at City Hall: Shakopee Mulls Over $500K Loan for Emerson

In an effort to nail down the so-called Emerson deal, the City of Shakopee is considering yet another business subsidy

This time, the enticement comes in the form of a $500,000 forgivable loan for Rosemount, Inc. a subsidiary of Emerson Process Management. The loan would augment a $1.4 million incentive package that the city has already offered the company. Rosemount is considering a new facility at 6021 Broadband Boulevard, a dormant building in eastern Shakopee. If Shakopee can seal the deal, the company will redevelop the building into a new engineering and manufacturing plant that would generate 400 to 500 jobs.

The money for the loan would come from the Department of Employment and Economic Development's Minnesota Investment Fund. The city has applied for the money on the company's behalf. Shakopee's Economic Development Advisory Committee will discuss the matter on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in council chambers.

Other meetings this week include:
Park and Rec Advisory Board, 7 p.m. on Monday
Environmental Advisory Committee, 7 p.m. on Wednesday
Transit Commission, 6:30 p.m. on Thursday
