Emerson Deal Approved: $70 Million Shakopee Facility to Bring 500 New Jobs

Emerson Process Management will renovate a 500,000 square foot building in the Valley Park Business Center over a five-year period.

Emerson Process Management will be moving into an east Shakopee facility as part of a $70 million expansion expected to bring up to 500 new jobs, the St. Louis-based firm announced earlier this week.

The firm will take five years to renovate a vacant facility in the Valley Park Business Center.

"The gorgeous, 500,000 square feet building on Broadband Boulevard in Shakopee’s Valley Green Industrial Park has sat empty for 13 years," Mayor Brad Tabke wrote on his blog. "According to a Greater MSP economic impact study, the 500, high-paying jobs will also spin off another 700 indirect jobs throughout our region."

Emerson's decision to expand in Shakopee was eased by more than $6 million in government incentives. Funding has come from the state, the city, the county and the Burnsville School District

Emerson's Rosemount measurement business manufactures instruments involved in pressure, temperature, flow and wireless that are used in industry.

“We are delighted to expand our operations here in Minnesota, which not only offers a quality workforce and excellent business climate, but also already serves as a major hub for Emerson in North America," said Steve Sonnenberg, Emerson's president, in a statement.

Gov. Mark Dayton also offered congratulations for the deal.

“We are deeply grateful to Emerson Process Management for its decision to invest further in Minnesota and create hundreds of new jobs here," he said in a statement. "We are pleased to provide an $815,000 state sales tax exemption to assist with this exciting project."
