Explosive Guns Wins by a Nose at Canterbury Park

Explosive Guns had never raced more than 400 yards before Sunday's race in Shakopee.

The Cash Caravan Stakes at Canterbury Park was a tight race, according to a release from the Shakopee park.

Explosive Guns and jockey Jorge Torres surged at the wire to win the $22,600 Cash Caravan Stakes by a nose on Sunday at Canterbury Park.

The 4-year-old Minnesota bred quarter horse was bred and is owned by Fred Pelzer of Royalton, MN. He is trained by Shane Miller. Final time for the 440 yards was 22.091 seconds. Tres My Tracks was second, a head in front of wagering favorite Western Fun. Explosive Guns paid $14.60 to win.

Prior to the Cash Caravan Stakes Explosive Guns had won twice in 19 starts but had never been asked to race further than 400 yards.

“This was the first time he’s ever gone the extra 40 yards,” Miller said. “and he liked it.”
