Shakopee's First International Festival, Derby Days Begin

A movie in the park, community picnic and pet fair are just a few of the activities happening on Day 1 of Shakopee Derby Days.

Shakopee's first International Festival is one of the kick off activities for Shakopee Derby Days, which run from Wednesday, July 31 through Sunday, August 4.

The Shakopee Diversity Alliance will host the festival at Huber Park from 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. The group formed after the city's first diversity summit in March of 2012.

Hosting the International Festival fulfills one of the goals of the alliance, which is to celebrate diversity and to educate the community about the diversity in Shakopee.

There are several performances planned for the festival, including African drum and dance, Asian dance and a Mongolian circus. Food trucks, crafts and an oral history project will also be part of the festival.
