On the article Mayor: Shakopee Should Be a Retail-Entertainment Destination

ReplyAnd what do wages have to with anything? To have these types of businesses and entertainment to draw people into downtown Shakopee, someone, like a business owner must want to come in and start up a business. The business owner must put the risk and the costs associated with starting and maintaining a business. Shakopee isn't geared for that in the downtown area. There are plenty of people out of work to fill those minimum wage positions. Minimum wage positions are not meant to be household maintaining jobs. They are to be starting off points on training and learning how to become a productive citizen.

ReplyLost Raceway Park...wasn't that good entertainment? The downtown really doesn't have a draw to it for people to want to go downtown. Unless that changes, it's not going to be a destination like Excelsior, Hopkins or Stillwater.

ReplyAnd so does Susan. She comments on everything, she has so much spare time. She attacks everyone that has an opinion different from hers. It's her "show", hijacks most articles and comments for WEEKS to no end.

It is interesting you quote the Bible in sections, yet ignore the parts that it teaches about other things. That is not how it's supposed to be done.

A poll of 1001 people doesn't a poll true opinion of the people make. 313 million people live in the United States. 1001 people is 0.000003% of the population, that poll is not a crosscut of the people.

ReplyStupid that with the amount of snow on the major roads and poor visibility that the decision was to have the schools open on time. It is never thought about the inexperienced teenage drivers or the kids that have to walk (most of them have to walk in the streets -- Marschall Road, 10th, Vierling -- because sidewalks are not cleared or there isn't a sidewalk). Their safety is never considered.

ReplyOh remember when certain school board members were adamant that graduation shouldn't be moved from Shakopee because the seniors wanted to graduate in their home school? When they let the senior class vote, the results were overwhelmingly FOR moving graduation outside of Shakopee. The adults that thought they knew what the students wanted were WRONG.

The split should be the East Junior High goes to one building and the West Junior High goes to the other. That is how my home area did it. Forging of true friends...look at your own life...did you have the same group of friends in 6th grade, 9th grade and 12th grade? Bet you didn't.

ReplyMy two cents. I have a senior and another child that graduated in 2009. They will be friends no matter what building they attend. Ask the current high schoolers their opinion on the school. My youngest was ticked off that every two years she was changing buildings. She currently is attending online high school and she is still friends with kids that attend SHS. Another thing..it's the parents and adults that are dreaming up this "friends" stuff. An average high school student changes their friends that they had at the start of 10th grade to a new set of friends by the time graduation hits. The group that both my kids hung out with in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th is a different set of kids. They do by senior year, have that core group fixed and it will change again after graduation as the kids go through life. The kids are at the school to learn. If you all keep this friends stuff up, why not go back to model the elementary school days...keeping the same group of 30 or so together the entire day. This proposed split of 9 and 10 in one building and 11 and 12 in the other; what are you doing about crossover grade classes like foreign language, electives, band, choir? Mollycoddling teenagers is not the way to go.
