Shakopee Derby Days Promises 5 Days of Excitement

Starting on Wednesday, a variety of activities will take place in the city, including the International Festival and Taste of Shakopee.

Part of summer in Shakopee is the Shakopee Derby Days, and it's happening this week.

Shakopee Derby Days is an annual volunteer-run event that will take place this year from Wednesday, July 31 to Sunday, August 1. Volunteers are still needed. 

Below are some of the highlights from the 2013 schedule of events.

Wednesday

Shakopee's first International Festival will take place at Huber Park from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The festival will include dance, food, crafts and more.

Thursday

The Taste of Shakopee will be at Huber Park from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Some of the menu items are: pizza slices from Pizza Ranch, chicken ranch chop salad from Turtles, corn on the cob from Cub Foods and Sammy's Speed Dog hot dogs.

Friday

Antique dealers, artists and other vendors will be at the Market Fair at Huber Park from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to  8 p.m. on Saturday. 

Also on Friday are the Summer Carnival games from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at Lions Park.

Saturday

Participate in the 5K Turf Run at Canterbury Park or  at 3:45 p.m. watch the Wild Rose Cloggers in Huber Park. 

The Scott County Historical Society is sponsoring an Amazing Shakopee History Race, a scavenger hunt that integrates Shakopee historical facts. Registration is open until 9:59 a.m. on Saturday, and the race starts at 10 a.m.

Sunday

The Shakopee Derby Days Parade starts at 1:30 p.m. and will follow a route along 10th Avenue from Adams Street to Spencer Street.

Enjoy half price admission at SandVenture Aquatic Park from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
