Shakopee Chamber & Visitors Bureau Celebrates Local Small Businesses by Hosting Small Business Saturday® Event in Shakopee

The Shakopee Chamber & Visitors Bureau today announced its endorsement of and participation in the fourth annual Small Business Saturday on November 30th. Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses nationwide. Celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the day has given small businesses across the country a huge boost.

Recognizing the importance of supporting small independently-owned businesses in our community, the Shakopee Chamber & Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce our support for Small Business Saturday and its Neighborhood Champion program.   The greater Shakopee area is encouraged to take part in Small Business Saturday!

The Shakopee Chamber Ambassadors will be out in force, handing out American Express gift cards on November 30th, as a way to thank and reward people for shopping local.  The event takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at different locations and businesses throughout Shakopee.  Make sure if you see an Ambassador in their green jacket, that you stop and say hello and tell them where you are shopping!

In order to help rally communities around the day, American Express created a Neighborhood Champions program, working with business organizations like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA), the U.S. Black Chambers the Latino Coalition and the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, to support communities in organizing Small Business Saturday events throughout the country. Attendees of local Neighborhood Champion events will have the opportunity to pick up Shop Small® items like tote bags, buttons and balloons.

“I am continuously amazed by how generously our local businesses support the Chamber as well as Shakopee’s schools, sports teams, hospitals, churches etc., and so when presented with the opportunity to partner with American Express to rally support for our local businesses on Small Business Saturday, we jumped at it,” explained Angie Whitcomb, Shakopee Chamber and Visitors Bureau President. “We encourage everyone to shop local not only this gift giving season, but all year long, keeping more of the money you spend recirculating within our own community.”
