Two Shakopee teachers were chosen as semifinalists for the Minnesota Teacher of the Year award, Education Minnesota announced today.
Ten educators from Shakopee Public Schools were named candidates earlier this month—more than from any other district in the state.
- Edward Loiselle is a social studies teacher at Shakopee High School. He also serves as the boys head hockey coach and has been thrice named "Section 6 Coach of the Year." "He is a teacher that I can always ask questions and gives me the truthful answer and not just the book answer," one student wrote on RateMyTeachers.com.
- Amanda Marek is an English teacher at Shakopee West Junior High. "My favorite teacher of all time," one student wrote on RateMyTeachers.com.
Education Minnesota nominated 135 teachers from across the state for 2013 Teacher of the year, the organization said in a press release. A 25-member panel of community leaders will name semifinalists and finalists in coming weeks, with the Teacher of the Year announced at a ceremony May 5 in Brooklyn Park.
