What's Closed, What's Open in Shakopee on Memorial Day?

From Veterans Memorial Park to Valleyfair to Raceway Park and more, there's a LOT to do around Shakopee on Memorial Day.

Many Shakopee folks will take a break this holiday weekend.

The  will be closed on Memorial Day, May 28, and there will be no mail delivery. Banks will be closed.

City government offices including , the , and the will be closed. in Shakopee will also be closed, as will the county's Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Jordan, which will be closed all weekend.

Emergency services providers will remain on duty.

All the closures may give you the time to attend one of the several events and activities happening in the area on Monday:

The  is holding its annual  to honor those who have journeyed to the spirit world along with veterans living and deceased. The ceremony, which starts at 9 a.m. and is held at the SMSC Veterans Monument on the grounds of the Tiowakan Spiritual Center just west of the SMSC Community Center, is open to the public.

After a visit to the SMSC event above at 9:15 a.m., the Shakopee American Legion Post 2 will be at Veterans Memorial Park in Shakopee at 10:15 a.m. The event begins at 10 a.m. with master of ceremony Joanne Bratland of the Shakopee American Legion Auxiliary, and Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke, who will give opening remarks. Guest speakers will be Todd J. Kubinski, Scott County Veterans Services director, and Roger K. Olson, American Legion Department of Minnesota past commander. Music will be provided by the Band under the direction of Eric Christensen. Awards will be presented to students from Shakopee’s public and Catholic schools. A light lunch will follow at the Shakopee American Legion. 

in Shakopee is holding Memorial Day events all weekend and will have a special ceremony commemorating Memorial Day at 2 p.m. Monday.

At , they are "honoring hometown heroes" over Memorial Day Weekend with free admission. Any active or retired member of the Military will receive free admission Saturday, May 26 through Monday, May 28. Present proof of service at any Valleyfair ticket booth to receive complimentary admission and discounts on tickets for family members.  

will hold live horse racing all weekend and starting at 1:30 p.m. Monday. They will have pony rides, a petting zoo and face painting. You can also register to win one of nine Grand View Lodge weekend getaways. 

On Monday, May 28, will hold a special event starting at 2 p.m. featuring exciting wild'n'crazy figure-8s, flagpole racing where drivers must circle their cars around a flagpole located on the front straightaway before they can complete the next lap, Thunder V-8s, Front Wheel Flyers, Mini Stocks, a special racecar relay race, the Dukes Jump where the current distance record is over 112 feet, and the exciting Steel Wall Fire Crash of Doom.
