Shakopee May Fine Property Owner for Violating Tree Removal Moratorium

Trees have been cut down on the Webster farm since the moratorium went into effect Jan. 31

A couple weeks after the Shakopee City Council approved a six-month moratorium on tree removal, the city is deciding whether to fine the owner of the old Webster  farm, located on the corner of Canterbury Road and Eagle Creek Boulevard.

Trees have been cut down on the farm since the ban took effect on Jan. 31, Shakopee Valley News is reporting.

The city told the paper that the site contractor was notified of the ban on Jan. 30.

The penalty for unauthorized tree removal during the moratorium is $500 per inch of diameter (measured at breast height) of the trees removed.
