Candidate Mike Obermueller Calls Michele Bachmann Comments "Nonsense"

Obermueller is campaigning to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. John Kline, who has declined to join others in his party condemning Bachmann for her comments.

Candidate for Congress released a following statement regarding U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann’s comments regarding Huma Abedin:

“Michele Bachmann’s baseless personal attacks on Huma Abedin and Congressman Keith Ellison are exactly the kind of nonsense that people hate about Washington—too much time spent on political dramatics and not nearly enough time getting things done,” said Obermueller, who is running for in the 2nd Congressional District. “Today I stand with the chorus of Democratic and Republican voices that have called these McCarthy-like comments ‘dangerous’ and ‘damaging to our country.’ Washington needs leaders who focus on strengthening the middle class—not ones that engage in these damaging types of political games."

Earlier this week Bachmann accused State Department aide Huma Abedin of loyalties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Elected officials who have condemned Bachmann’s comments include Speaker John Boehner, Senator John McCain, and Senator Lindsey Graham, along with former Bachmann campaign manager Ed Rollins.

Kline has not joined in GOP condemnation of Bachmann for accusing a State Department official of ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, according to a report by the Star Tribune.
