Two Candidate Forums Scheduled for October

The Shakopee Chamber of Commerce will be hosting two forums for candidates running in the Nov. 5 election.

Local candidates will go head to head during two forums, one for school board and another for city races.

The two are hosted by the Shakopee Chamber of Commerce. Both forums will take place at the Shakopee High School Auditorium, 100 17th Avenue West

The School Board Candidate Forum will be first. It is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. There are five candidates running for four open School Board seats—Chuck Berg, Jeremy Casper, Shawn Hallet and incumbents Mary Romansky and Scott Swanson.

The municipal candidates are invited to a subsequent forum on Tuesday, Oct. 22. From  7 to 7:45 p.m. the audience will hear from the two mayoral candidates, incumbent Mayor Brad Tabke and Council Member Matt Lehman. The city council candidates will follow from 8:15 to 9 p.m. The council race is crowded, with five candidates running for just two seats: Mike Luce, Kathi Mocol, Jordan Olson, Mark Reimler and Aaron Weyer are all running for office.

An hour prior to each forum there will be an open house. Voters are encouraged to send proposed questions by email to shakopeeelections@gmail.com. Please indicate the race or candidate(s) to whom the question is directed.

Footage of the forums will be re-broadcast on the City’s Government Access channel (Comcast Cable Channel 16) and available for streaming on the City's website after the events. The forums will not be broadcast live.

The general election will take place on Nov. 5.
