Shakopee Woman Faces Second Charge of Fleeing Police

A Shakopee woman charged earlier this month with leading Eden Prairie police on a high-speed chase has been charged again – this time with fleeing police in Brooklyn Center five days before the Eden Prairie incident.

My Thi Do, 20, is charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, a felony with a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Brooklyn Center police spotted a car eastbound on eastbound Interstate 694 on Dec. 27, and noted that the driver was doing something on a cell phone, according to the criminal complaint, signed by Brooklyn Center Police Officer Charles Valleau.

Police began pursuing the car, clocking its speed at 75 mph and watching as the driver, later identified as Do, went over the fog line and over the left lane marker, the complaint says.

Officers activated the squad car’s emergency lights, and Do initially pulled over to the right and stepped on her brakes as if she was going to stop, then accelerated and continued east on Interstate 94, speeding up to 90 mph, according to the complaint.

Police continued following Do as she exited the interstate, then went through two stop signs without stopping. They gave up the pursuit because of concern about the public’s safety.

Officers checked Do’s driving record and learned about the Eden Prairie charges. They also discovered that the car had been transferred into her name on Dec. 13.

Do was arrested Jan. 1 by Eden Prairie police after she was clocked driving 50 mph in a 30 mph zone. The subsequent chase reached speeds of 60 mph in a residential area, according to court documents. 

Do has been released from custody on a $20,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in her latest case is scheduled Feb. 6 in Hennepin County District Court.
