Shakopee Man Charged in Christmas Day Domestic Assault On Estranged Wife

A Shakopee man convicted in early December of felony domestic assault has been charged after reportedly punching and kicking his estranged wife on Christmas Day.

Ontario Dariell Whiteside, 32, has been charged in Scott County Court counts of felony first-degree burglary, felony domestic assault and felony domestic abuse for violating a restraining order more than once.

Details from investigators are in a Scott County criminal complaint. Investigators say Whiteside called his estranged wife at about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 25 and was talking to her for a few minutes when the woman heard her garage door opening. She told police she found Whiteside in the kitchen and asked him to leave. Instead, the woman told police, Whiteside approached her in the garage, threw a wine bottle at her, missing her, and began to punch her in the face.

The woman's two children watched the attack play out, she said, and her 11-year-old daughter tried to grab on to Whiteside to pull him away. The woman said Whiteside only stopped when she yelled for her daughter to call 911. Officers noted the woman had abrasions and swelling on the left side of her face.

Officers found Whiteside a short time later walking away from the home.

Whiteside, who remains in Scott County Jail on $100,000 cash bail, was convicted of felony domestic assault on Dec. 2 stemming from a July incident involving his wife. He received a sentence of five years supervised probation.
