Family escapes when fire engulfs home at in the 1200 block of East Shakopee Ave. on Thursday night.

Officials are not sure what caused a fire at 1265 East Shakopee Ave. on Thursday evening, and the cause of that fire remains under investigation.

Deputy Fire Chief Dave Judd said the family had all made it out of the house by the time he arrived on the scene Thursday night.

"They were just getting out right at the point when we were arriving," he said. "We went in and did our search and rescue, and now we're sorting it out."

Judd said there were a number of family members at home when the fire broke out, but that an exact number of occupants was not available at the time.

He also said that while it was too soon to tell where or how the fire started, the worst damage appeared to be in the basement.
