West Metro Monday Morning Commute Slippery and Long

Packs of snow and ice on the road resulted in road incidents and travel delays.

The winter storm that hit Minnesota over the weekend brought over a foot of snow in some cities and dangerous road conditions.

By the Monday morning commute, many major roads were in fair condition, but not perfect. Slippery and hardened snow packed areas led to morning road troubles and lengthy commutes, according to the Star Tribune.

The evening commute should be better, WCCO reported, as the Minnesota Department of Transportation continues to clear the road.

Here’s a look at some of the traffic incidents in the West Metro as reported by MnDOT.

Interstate 494

  • Westbound crash near US-212 by Eden Prairie.
  • Stalled vehicle blocked road between I-494 and I-394.

Highway 169

  • Stalled vehicle northbound between MN-7 and Exit 127A.
  • Vehicle spun out northbound between Cedar Lake Road and Frontage Road (St. Louis Park).

Minnesota Highway 5

  • Stalled vehicle between MN-55 and MN-5.

US-212

  • Disabled vehicle westbound between Shady Oak Road and MN-62.

In the West Metro, Lt. Eric Roeske with the Minnesota State Patrol reported that from 9:30 p.m. on Saturday through 10 a.m. Monday morning there were 276 reports of crashes, 24 of which involved injuries. There were also 331 reports of vehicles off road and vehicle spin outs.

In total, there were 654 crashes, reported from 9:30 p.m. on Friday through Monday morning, according to Lt. Roeske. Of those crashes, one was fatal and 67 involved injuries. There were almost 1300 reports of vehicles off road and vehicle spin outs over the same time period.
