Updated: 17-Year-Old Pulled From Lake O'Dowd in Shakopee Has Died

Funeral services for Jason Daquon Lewis, of Shakopee, will be held this weekend in Indiana, where the Lewis family is from.

Update 3:15 p.m. Monday: Funeral services will be held this weekend in Indiana, where the Lewis family is from, according to Shakopee High School officials.

A 17-year-old Shakopee boy who was rescued after being under water in Lake O'Dowd for up to 30 minutes Friday afternoon has died, according to the Scott County Sheriff's Office.

Jason Daquon Lewis, of Shakopee, died at about 2:30 a.m. June 30 at the Hennepin County Medical Center.

Shakopee High School officials said Monday that Lewis became a student at the school in March. He had finished his junior year and was slated to start his senior year in the fall.

In a statement to Patch Saturday,  district superintendent Dr. Rod Thompson said, “We in the school district are very saddened by this news. Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathy go to Jason’s family, friends and loved ones."

Scott County Sheriff's Office officials posted on their Facebook page, "The thoughts and prayers of our office are with this young man, his family and friends."

I am so sad about this story, hits so close to home. Sad for the family and for such a young life to end so soon. Very very sad and can only pray for the family and remember this young man for years to come.
