Sammy's Speed Dog to Return to Shakopee With Bigger Franks, Better Buns

The hot dog stand is planning a late March or early April reopening.

When Sammy’s Speed Dog reopens in late March or early April after shuttering its doors in 2011, the gourmet hot dog stand will be serve bigger and better franks.

Mark Peterson of Lakeville and Dawn Folisi of Prior Lake bought the hot dog stand in November, with an eye for improvement.

“We’ve increased the size of our dogs and we’ve come up with a better bun recipe,” Peterson said. “We went to all-toasted buns, except for the Chicago which will stay traditional, steamed.”

Folisi said the Nascar-themed restaurant (815 1st Ave W) would offer a bigger variety of quality char-grilled hot dogs than any other location in the Twin Cities.

“We did research across the country—Texas, New York, of course Chicago dogs—and we basically found the best-of-the-best gourmet dogs and chicken wings and brought them all to one location,” she said. “We have a dozen different dogs, wings—we call them colossal wings—seasoned fries, stuff like that.”
