Teen Driving Class in Shakopee Enlists Parents to Help Reduce Crashes
The bottom line: the more you know about teen driving risks and laws and helpful ways to talk about them, the more you can help your child become a safer driver.
What the real risks are for teen drivers and what restrictions are in place for new teen drivers? Do you have a contract in place with your teen, outlining your expectations when they get behind the wheel? Did you know that you can cancel your teen’s driver’s license until age 18?
Learn about all this and more in a parent-teen class being offered through Shakopee Community Education, from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, in the cafeteria.
A study by The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia shows that teens who said their parents set clear rules, paid attention to where they were going and whom they were with, and did so in a supportive way, were:

- half as likely to crash,
- twice as likely to wear seat belts,
- 71 percent less likely to drive while intoxicated,
- 30 percent less likely to use a cell phone while driving,
when compared to teens who said their parents were less involved.
