Wiener Dog Races, Wine Tasting, Clydesdales: Canterbury Park's Labor Day Weekend

Festival of Champions, dog racing and more are featured events at the Shakopee park from Aug. 30 through Sept. 2.

Canterbury Park in Shakopee has filled Labor Day weekend with multiple events. See their descriptions below.

"Canterbury Uncorked" - Aug. 30

Canterbury's wine event offers bottomless glasses of a large variety of wines. An experienced wine representative will head each pouring table, which will be organized into four categories. The pouring tables will also have detailed explanations and tasting notes. The event starts at 6 p.m.

Budweiser Clydesdales - Aug. 30 through Sept. 1

See eight Budweiser Clydesdales on the track as they pull a vintage Budweiser beer truck, accompanied by an obedience-trained Dalmatian dog.

20th Annual Minnesota Festival of Champions - Sept. 1

It's a 10-race program known as the state championship of Minnesota horse racing. Only Minnesota-bred horses can participate in the races, which showcase the state's best championship thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. Last year's Festival had 17,053 fans in attendance.

"Wiener Dog Wars" - Sept. 2

The over 72 dachshunds competing in this year's event makes it the "biggest day of dachshund racing ever at Canterbury Park." There will be six qualifying races that will occur in between horse races. A championship run will determine the 2013 winner.
