SMSC Wacipi Exhibition Coming to Mall of America

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community will be at the mall in advance of this weekend's Wacipi (Pow Wow).

Dancers from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and other American Indian nations will perform at the annual Wacipi (Pow Wow) Exhibition at the Mall of America on Thursday.

Dancers will perform in full regalia, such as bells, beadwork and moccasins, at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Each will start with a Grand Entry and a master of ceremony will describe the dance styles, according to a news release.

There will also be a program to honor veterans at 3:30 p.m. The program will feature the story of Native Americans and their military service. All veterans will have the opportunity to participate.

The 2013 SMSC Wacipi will be held Friday, Aug. 16 through Sunday, Aug. 18. It is located at 3212 Dakotah Parkway in Shakopee

Wacipi buttons are $5 and include admission for the weekend and an evening meal on Saturday. Admission is free for those 60 and over and children 5 and under. Parking is also free.
