Director of 'The Incompatibles' Calls Theater an Active Art

The series of one-act comedies will be presented again this weekend in Shakopee.

"The Incompatibles" is the second Shakopee production for Dances on High Theater, said Director Dimitri Gerasimenko.

The play, a series of comedic one-acts, is supported in part by River Valley Theater Company, and Gerasimenko said he was grateful for the opportunity to present theater in other venues.

Gerasimenko graduated from Russia's St. Petersburg University in 1988 and has performed as a professional actor and director since then. He arrived to the United States in 1998.

He established Dances on High Theatre in 2005 and has often presented work in Russian.

His passion for theater became clear as he spoke about it.

"Theater is very creative," he said. "It's an active art."

Not only are the actors and actresses active, but the audience plays a part in their active response and understanding of the work, said Gerasimenko.

"It's a very unifying thing," he said.

Residents will have another chance to see "The Incompatibles" this weekend at Shakopee High School's Black Box Theater.

Times: Saturday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m.; Sunday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for seniors and students.
