Theater, Christmas Past, Benefit Auction: Shakopee Weekend Planner

Events include plays, a look at Christmas traditions, and opportunities to give back during the holiday season.

Here are some of the event highlights:

Four Tickets to Christmas

Dec. 7-9, 14-15 at varying times

Friendship Church is presenting the musical, which is about a family singing group. The family ends up spending Christmas away from their New York and dealing with relationships. Tickets are $5. For times and to purchase tickets, click here.

Peter Pan's Christmas Adventure

Dec. 7 at 2 p.m., Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Dec. 9 at 2 p.m.

Peter Pan and a cast of characters, including Wendy, Captain Hook, and the Lost Kids are on a search for treasure in this musical play. The Lost Kids—Bible characters—and the Peter Pan crew discover the true meaning of Christmas. Musicals with a Mission will present the play at St. John's Lutheran Church. Admission is free. An offering will be taken to benefit Good to Go Kids.

The Landing's 40th Annual "Folkways of the Holidays

Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

The event brings to life past Minnesota River Valley holiday traditions. Activities include folk art performances, crafts, and trolleys pulled by horses. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children and seniors.

Dec. 8 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Persell found out in early November that she has terminal lung cancer with a life expectancy of two to six months. The event will include food, a silent auction, and a live auction. The monetary goal of the benefit is to raise $15,000. Janelle Roring, who is a close friend of Persell and who is also organizing the event, said that her main wish is for the community to show their support to Persell by attending the event. 

It will be located at the Shakopee VFW Post 4046, 1201 Third Avenue East in Shakopee. Tickets are $10 for adults for entrance and food. Kids 10 and under are free.

Ongoing Holiday Events

Shakopee Chamber Holiday Food Drive

After the Festival, leave food donations at the Shakopee Chamber of Commerce office. Donations benefit the Community Action Partnership (CAP) Agency and will be accepted until 12 p.m. on Dec. 20.

Toys for Tots Shakopee Locations

Several Shakopee schools and local businesses are drop-off locations for Toys for Tots donations. Unwrapped toys can be donated through much of December leading to Christmas. Exact dates vary by location.
