Masons to Leave Shakopee for Downtown Savage

The Minnesota River Valley Lodge No. 6 of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons plan to relocate their lodge from Shakopee to Savage.

The Savage Pacer reports that the group recently bought a 15,000 square foot building in downtown, on the 4800 block of West 124th Street. The property will become their permanent meeting place as soon as renovations wrap up. Officials with the Masons told the Pacer that they expect to move in next summer.

Currently, the men meet at 110-1/2 1st Ave. E in Shakopee. The Shakopee location is home to two lodges, the Minnesota River Valley Lodge No. 6  (which has served Jordan, Shakopee, Chaska and Belle Plaine since four masonic lodges merged in 1999) and Lebanon Lodge #346 (which serves Eagan, Burnsville, and Apple Valley).

However, the building in Shakopee is antiquated and not easily accessible to aged Masons.

“Our building in Shakopee was built in the 1800s, and it has very, very long, steep, narrow staircases,” said Rich Hervieux, master of the lodge, told the Pacer. “It means a lot [to masons] to go to lodge, and it was really sad that there were brothers who weren’t able to go anymore due to age or health reasons. It really has an adverse affect on their lives [if they can’t go].”
