Winter Activities at Three Rivers Parks

Skiing, cross-country skiing lessons, and exploring are offered at parks in the Shakopee area this month.

 

 

Frigid Time Trials at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve

Let’s do some winter racing! Dust off the bike and come to Murphy-Hanrehan for a winter mountain bike time trial on Saturdays, January 5, 12, or 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve, Savage. Race through the trees and snow, then warm up at the trailhead building for awards and door prizes. Studded tires are approved. Helmets are required.

Pre-register and save. Cost is just $12 for those who pre-register, or $15 for race-day registration. Register for all three races for just $30. To pre-register call 763-559-6700. This race is for ages 14+ and is co-sponsored by FreeWheel Bike. Registration begins at 10 a.m., and race starts at 11 a.m.

About the Scott County-Three Rivers Park District Partnership: Scott County and Three Rivers Park District combine resources to collectively operate all regional parks and trails in Scott County under terms of a joint powers agreement approved in 2010.

Cross Country Ski Lessons - Cleary Lake Regional Park in Prior Lake

Classic Beginner for Kids: Saturday, January 5, from 10-11:30 a.m. Don’t leave the kids behind! This lesson offers an introduction to cross-country skiing through fun games and activities. Reservations required. Cost $12 or $18 with ski rental. This lesson is for ages 6-12. Reference activitynumber #124694-00.

Classic Beginner I - Basics: Saturday, January 5, from 12:30-2 p.m. Balance, stride and glide! This lesson covers cross-country skiing basics, including putting on equipment, falling down and getting up, diagonal stride, stopping, turning, and a brief introduction to small hills. For novice skiers and those who want to review. Cost is $18 or $28 with ski rental. This lesson is for ages 13+. Reference activity number #124688-01.

My Preschooler & Me: Early Explorers: Animal Tracks

Tuesday, January 8, from 10-11:30 a.m., at The Landing-Minnesota River Heritage Park, Shakopee. Become a detective as we search for animal tracks and clues. Learn the differences between a strider, a leaper, a bounder and a waddler, and then leave a few tracks of your own in the snow! Cost is $5 and reservations are required.
