Who Is The New Leader Of The Shakopee Mdewakanton?
Charlie Vig has succeeded Stanley R. Crooks as community chairman. Crooks died last month.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune on Saturday published a profile of Charlie Vig, the new chairman of the Shakopee Mdewakanton community.
Vig became the head of the tribe after .
"This just happened, so the pressure is just hitting me now," Vig said in the Star Tribune story of his new position.

After Crooks' death, that said, in part, “Chairman Crooks was a leader in every sense of the word. I am honored to have worked with Stanley over the last 20 years and especially over the last eight months on the Tribal Council. He was a true mentor and a true leader."
In the Star Tribune article, Philip Baker-Shenk, the tribe's lawyer in Washington, said of Vig, "Charlie is a very creative, down-to-earth leader who inspires confidence and looks and seems very comfortable in his own element."
