Shakopee Police Seek Public's Help in Downtown Fighting Incident
A report of 15-16 people fighting downtown ended with one man in the hospital.
Shakopee police are seeking the public’s help to find those involved in a brawl downtown that sent one man to the hospital with a serious eye injury.
Police were called at 2:30 a.m. Sunday to a report of 15-16 people fighting on the 100 block of First Avenue East outside Turtle’s Bar and Grill and Arne’s Bar, according to Shakopee Police Capt. Chris Dellwo.
A 27-year-old Shakopee man told police he had been walking nearby when he heard an altercation and then heard a woman scream, Dellwo said. The man, who said he was intoxicated, went to intervene and reportedly got punched in the eye.
“I think he was trying to prevent the fight,” Dellwo said. “Due to the severity of the injury, we’re trying to find the people involved.”
The man was taken by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center and Dellwo said although police were still waiting for medical reports, the man had undergone surgery on his eye.
Although skirmishes happen in that area once every couple weeks, Dellwo said normally no one is hurt very badly.
Dellwo said the suspects reportedly left the scene in a taxi. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Shakopee Police at (952) 233-9400 and ask for investigations.
