Shakopee Diversity Alliance Meeting Tonight, Seeking Committee Members

The next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. July 24.

Since more than 100 people attended the Shakopee Diversity Summit in March at Shakopee City Hall, a task force called the Shakopee Diversity Alliance has created a strategic plan and goals for 2012-2013. They've also formed three committees and are looking for more members to help with each each goal.

The goals:

  1. Host an international event in Shakopee that will celebrate the community's diversity and educate everyone in attendance about diversity.

  2. Build a resource network that will inform new and current members about the resources available to assist them and their families.

  3. Enhance education and cultural awareness opportunities in Shakopee

Shakopee community members are welcome to volunteer to be part of any of the three committees.

Those interested in the festival committee should contact Jay Whiting at jaywhtng@aol.com. For the resources network committee, contact Yvonne Anderson at yvonne.anderson@bhshealth.org. For the education and cultural awareness committee, email Deb Barber at dbarber@canopymedical.com.

The SDA will meet in July to discuss how to implement the strategies it has established to achieve its goals. The group will also choose or elect its leadership.

Updated June 27: The SDA will meet again July 24 at Shakopee City Hall. There will be food and refreshments at 6 p.m. Meeting participants can bring a dish they would like to share with the group. The meeting is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
