Update 5:25 p.m. Aug. 17: University of Tennesee - Chattanooga head volleyball coach Travis J. Filar told Patch Friday, "Rachel is not on our roster for the upcoming season, therefore will not be playing for us."

A former Shakopee High School student accused of stealing jewelry from her family so she could pawn it and buy heroin has pleaded guilty in three separate cases involving theft.

Rachel Marie Rhinesmith, 18, was charged with one count of felony theft in Scott County Court in May. Last week, she pleaded guilty to an amended lesser count of gross misdemeanor theft as part of a plea agreement.

In that case, according to the criminal complaint, Rhinesmith's mother called Shakopee police on April 26 and said Rhinesmith had taken her father’s car without permission. When it was recovered, jewelry and a computer tablet were missing.

Family members also told police that Rhinesmith had stolen and pawned items including a video camera, stereo, tripod, guitar, weed whip and her father’s wedding ring. According to records from a local pawn shop, Rhinesmith pawned 18 items for $1,525 between January and May.

In a statement to police, Rhinesmith reportedly said she had a $100 per day heroin addiction.

Rhinesmith also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge last week in a separate case from earlier this year.

In a new case filed in late July, she was charged with misdemeanor theft, which she pleaded guilty to last week as well. In both cases, she has been sentenced to pay fines.

She is scheduled to be sentenced in the felony theft case on Sept. 24.

Last fall, Rhinesmith signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball for the University of Tennesee – Chattanooga.
