Nine Candidates Chosen For Assistant Superintendent Interviews

Interviews will start for the new position March 15.

The Shakopee School District announced March 5 the nine candidates who will be interviewed for a new assistant superintendent position.

Although nine were chosen, one has withdrawn her application, Patch learned Wednesday morning. Shawn Dudley, who is currently the principal of Valley View Middle School in Edina is the candidate who withdrew, according to Shakopee School District spokeswoman Cristina Oxtra. She said didn't know why Dudley chose to opt out.

“We had a great group of applicants with many outstanding educators wanting to help lead in our district,” said superintendent Dr. Rod Thompson. “In all, we had approximately 75 candidates to choose from.”

Following are the candidates:

Robert Metz - Principal, St. Louis Park High School, St. Louis Park School District

William (Scott) Hare - Director of Special Services, Belle Plaine School District

Sheryl Hough - Principal, Chaska Middle School West, District 112

John Wollersheim - Principal, Rosemount High School, District 196

James Wagner - Assistant Principal, Monticello High School, District 882

John Bezek - Principal, Tartan High School, District 662

Randal Smasal - Associate Superintendent of Learning, Rockwood, Mo., School District

Marsha Baisch - Principal, Office of Leadership Development and Academic Support, St. Paul School District

Interviews start March 15.

While I am sure all the candidates mentioned are more than qualified, I am surprised that there are no candidates from within the Shakopee school district itself. Surely there must be teachers/administrators within our own district that are equally qualified and moreover already know the lay of the land. It is an established practice in most private organizations to promote from within whenever possible - is it different for schools?
