Meet the Owner: Veronica Case

Two sisters, Veronica and Jessica Case opened Tupelo, a gift studio in downtown Shakopee, in June 2010.

Shopping for a unique gift in Shakopee just got easier. Two sisters, Veronica and Jessica Case, have opened Tupelo, a gift studio in downtown Shakopee. The unique shop is located in the main level of a home that dates back to 1905 on the corner at 210 Holmes St. S.

“We grew up around art," said Veronica Case. "Our parents were both artists in their way, and so we wanted to open a store that fused art and gifts."

The shop is set up with an old-school feel that matches the exterior of the building. An antique glass cabinet showcases handmade jewelry, old trunks sit on tables displaying unique pottery and funky wine bottle holders dangle from windows.

“We hand-pick everything we sell in here, and we try to feature local artists as much as possible,” Case said. “We want people to realize that art doesn’t have to break the bank. We have a good mix of price points at our shop that should match anyone’s budget.”

This isn’t the first business venture for the Case sisters; the duo opened their own graphic design business seven years ago. Now both businesses are run out of the same building.

“We’ve always gotten along really well so going into business together seemed like a natural fit,” she said. The name of the store also seemed like a “natural fit” for the two sisters. The name, Tupelo, came from a Van Morrison song, which the two are still fans of to this day.

The store opened in June 2010, and is still a secret to many in Shakopee.

“I’ve been in Tupelo a few times to pick up a gift and when I’m asked where the gift came from I tell them about this little gift shop in town,” Tina Fazio said. “I don’t feel like I have to leave town anymore to find a cool gift, I can just swing in to Tupelo.”

So far, feedback like Fazio’s has been good for the Case sisters to hear.

“We grew up here and we really want to offer the people we know something fun and different,” Case said. “We know just about everyone who walks though the door, so hopefully the word gets out and more and more people come to visit us.”

Tupelo is open Monday through Saturday. For more information about the store and the hours it’s open, check out their Facebook page.
