The weather cleared this morning, providing for a lovely Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park in Shakopee Monday morning.

The event included music by the Shakopee High School band, awards to students and a minute of silence in memory of those in the military who have fallen on duty.

A memorial wreath was placed at the Veterans Memorial Park monument, a salute to those who have died was given by Marty Novotny, Sgt. of the National Guard and the Shakopee American Legion #2. The American flag was raised by Boy Scout Troops #218 and #619.

There is a time and place for everything and a Memorial Day Ceremony is not the time to hand out awards to students.

Interesting thought Shakopee Mom. Can anyone tell us a little more about these awards?
