Four Shakopee Girls Win Big at Volleyball Finals

The girls were part of Northern Lights Junior Volleyball teams.

Four Shakopee girls placed or won championships at the AAU Girls' Junior National Volleyball Finals in Orlando, Florida last week.

Maggie Holcombe and Taylor Koehn played on the 17-W team, which finished in first place to win the 17U Classic Championship. The team played twelve matches and won every match. Each match consists of two to three games.

Assistant Coach Sara Holcombe said that the team focused on eleven steps to get them to the championships—steps that included self-esteem, focus, and healthy habits.

“They were real committed to getting to that championship game,” Holcombe said. “They worked so well as a team to get there.”  

Maggie Holcombe also received the MVP award for the 17U Classic Tournament. She was thrilled, said Assistant Coach Holcombe.

Another Shakopee player, Kenzie Pieper, was part of team 15-1 that won the 15U Open Championship. Claire Sames played on team 18-2, which took second in the 18U Club Championship tournament.

All four volleyball players were part of the Northern Lights Junior Volleyball teams, located in Burnsville.
