City to Host Public Talk-back About Dog Park Proposal

The City of Shakopee is ready to move on the city's first dog park, a plan that has been in the works since 2005.

After eight years of wishing and hoping, Shakopee city officials are finally ready to present the specifics of a proposed dog park to the public.

If all goes according to plan, the off-leash dog area will be located on a wooded plot of land just north of Southbridge Parkway. Once complete, the park will feature both open areas for leash-free play and a network of trails through the wooded recesses of the lot. City officials also hope to build a hockey rink on the park's south side. Construction on the park could start as early as this year.

The city has invited the public to an open house, where residents are encouraged to give feedback on the proposal. The meeting will be from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 1 in the Red Oak Elementary cafeteria, 7700 Old Carriage Court.
