Update: Booth Fire at Renaissance Festival

6 booths lost and about 25 booths closed after Renaissance Festival fire this morning.

An early morning fire at the Renaissance Festival destroyed six or severely damaged about 25 booths on the grounds. The festival was closed throughout the morning.

The fire started early this morning at a chicken shack.

"The fire was found by security around 6:15 a.m. this morning and then reported to the local fire department," Deb Schaber from the Renaissance Festival said.

It then spread to neighboring booths but was contained by 7:30 a.m. No one was hurt.

The situation was complicated by the fact that there were no fire hydrants on the Renaissance Festival grounds, forcing the fire department to bring in water tanks to douse the flames.

"At one point over 12 rigs (fire trucks) were at the fire," Schaber said. "No cause of the fire is known yet," she added.

The entire Marrow Market area of the festival was blocked off this morning, waiting for the state fire inspector to come and clear the scene.

This is the last and most attended weekend of the Renaissance Festival.

"The Fair is still open and we hope to have the section opened up by tomorrow (Saturday)," Schaber said.
